Spring Forward

With only 27 days left until Spring, it’s time to start thinking of fun things to do! Sunday, March 12th, don’t forget to “spring forward” with daylight savings. Longer days means more time for fun activities. Tanganyika Wildlife Park opens on March 17th and the Sedgwick County Zoo is currently open! Public pools typically open on Memorial Day weekend which will be May 29th this year. On that same weekend, Rock River Rapids will open in Derby.

We can’t forget about new homes either! With warm Spring weather ahead, it will be perfect time to view houses. With longer days you can visit more open houses in the day, currently it’s hard to view homes after 6:00pm due to the sun setting so early. The Outdoor living & Landscape Show will be held at Century II, March 3rd-5th. This show is perfect for getting new ideas and knowledge on how to get your dream backyard! Don’t worry about the kids, there is also a children’s garden! Kids can get their faces painted, make paper butterflies and color!

Seven Simple Curb Appeal Ideas

When buying or selling your home, everyone can agree that first impressions play a huge role in the decision. The first thing  you or potential buyers will see is the front of the home and you want that first look to make you say “Wow!” Here are a few easy steps to help!

  1. Love your yard: Clean up any weeds or over growth. If you love your yard, so will everyone else! Consider hiring a landscaper to give your yard the perfect look.
  2. Update: Install modern porch light fixtures or new door knobs.
  3. Brighten it up: Plant native and colorful flowers to give the home new life!
  4. Maintain: Paint, frame or scrub your door! It could even be as simple as spraying some WD-40 or buying new hardware.
  5. Fix it up: Correct any bent or cracked guttering. If your garage door is broken or in bad shape, now is the time to fix it!
  6. Make it sparkle: Power wash your siding and porch. Overtime dirt and grime can build up, giving your home a not so pretty look.
  7. Finishing touches: Update your mailbox or give your house numbers a new font! It’s the little things that potential home buyers will notice!

If you or someone you know is interested in buying or selling a home, give us a call! Barney and Associates also stages homes, so that the “wow factor” will continue throughout the entire showing! 316-641-9700

Goddard News

When you think of Goddard you may imagine a small town without much going on. I know that’s what I used to think! Yet, in 2012 Goddard’s population was 24,412 with an average of 12,097 households. Since then those number have only increased!

2017 will bring new excitement to Goddard! A new hotel is set to be built with a restaurant and sports bar. The hotel is expected to have 141 rooms, the rooms are rumored to be ‘suite’ style as well! Along with the new hotel an aquatic and wellness center will also be built.

This center will be called The Natatorium, complete with an 8-lane Olympic pool, diving and therapy pools, along with a swimming museum. Goddard is hoping to have construction started in the first quarter of 2017. In addition to the Natatorium, Goddard will also add a baseball/softball complex. This complex will have a total of 4 fields, they will be able to accommodate youth, NCAA and NBC teams!

With approximately 200 acres available for growth and development, we can’t wait to see what other additions Goddard will add!

New in Maize

Maize cannot stop growing! Since New Market Square first opened in 2001, numerous retailers and restaurants have been added. You may have noticed a new establishment further North on Maize Rd has sprung up! Orange Theory, an hour long personal group training class, has recently opened in New Market North.

New Market North construction began in June 2016, so far only Orange Theory has opened. New Market North is said to be more contemporary than New Market Square and will also be more pedestrian oriented. A  breakfast concept restaurant will also be coming soon.

Sasnak Management, starter of Carlo’s O’Kelly’s, will be opening a new restaurant named HomeGrown. The new restaurant will focus on local sourcing and partnering. The menu is still in the works but they are aiming to open this spring.

New Market North will span a quarter of a mile, making the New Market length a full mile. They are estimating to be fully occupied by spring 2017, with a rumored 15-20 retailers and 4-5 restaurants. We will be posting more on Maize developments as new information is released!
